Ice cleat styles

  • Stud cleats — studs set in a rubber or TPE sole harness, for everyday walking.
  • Coil cleats — steel coils wrapped around the harness.
  • Chain spikes (microspikes) — chains and spikes for trails and rougher ice.
  • Heel cleats — compact cleats covering the heel only.

Traction claims, honestly

Ice cleats improve grip on ice and packed snow, but they do not eliminate the risk of slipping. We do not claim slip-resistance ratings, coefficients of friction or test results by default; products are built to the standards you specify, and test reports available for a given model can be provided on request. Packaging should tell users to remove cleats before walking on indoor hard floors, tile or metal surfaces, and not to wear them while driving. For workplace programs, the buyer’s safety team selects the style.
