Generator covers storage covers and running covers for portable generators

A storage generator cover is a fitted, waterproof cover used when the generator is not running — in a shed, garage, RV bay or outdoors between storms. It typically has an elastic or drawstring hem, buckle straps against wind and a soft lining that protects the paintwork.

A running cover (often sold as a generator tent or generator shelter) is a framed canopy that keeps rain and snow off the outlets and control panel while the generator runs outdoors, leaving the sides open for airflow. Running covers are sold to buyers who keep their generator outside during a storm; they must never be used to enclose a running generator, and your listings should say so.

Portable generators produce carbon monoxide and hot exhaust. Product copy, inserts and manuals should state that generators are run only outdoors, away from doors, windows and vents, with the clearances the generator manufacturer specifies, and that storage covers are fitted only after the engine has cooled. Covers are sized by generator length × width × height. Most programs combine a few universal sizes (small inverter, mid-size portable, large open-frame) with model-specific covers for best sellers.
