Emergency radio features
Most emergency radios combine several power sources so they keep working through a long outage: a hand crank dynamo, a small solar panel, a built-in rechargeable battery and a compartment for AAA batteries. Typical features include AM/FM reception, a weather band for official weather broadcasts where available, an LED flashlight, a USB port to top up a phone, and an SOS siren with flashing light. Battery capacity and features vary by model.
Emergency radio vs weather radio
A weather radio usually means a receiver focused on official weather broadcasts, sometimes with automatic alerts; an emergency radio is a broader survival device with crank/solar power, light and charging. Many of our models do both. Alert-function availability and certification are model- and market-specific; we do not claim NOAA Weather Radio or Public Alert certification by default.
Radios for kits and shelters
Radios are the anchor item in storm kits and a common add-on for tornado shelter dealers and backup power programs. See emergency preparedness supplies for kits and lighting.
Compliance, honestly
Radios contain receivers and lithium batteries, both regulated differently by market. We do not claim FCC, CE, NOAA or other certifications by default; radios are built to the standards you specify and test reports available for a given model can be provided on request.
