Water storage tanks barrels, drums, collapsible tanks and rainwater tanks

Hurricanes, earthquakes, floods and freezes can interrupt the public water supply or contaminate a well for days. A water storage tank lets a household keep a bulk reserve of drinking and washing water on hand. StormForge supplies water barrels and drums, collapsible tanks, larger polyethylene tanks and rainwater tanks to preparedness brands, outdoor and hardware retailers and distributors — built to the materials and documentation you specify.

  • Water storage barrels and drums, approx. 55-gallon (≈200 L) class, with bung caps
  • Larger vertical polyethylene tanks quoted per project
  • Collapsible water tanks and bladders for compact storage
  • Rainwater tanks with inlet screen, overflow and tap fittings

Water storage tank formats

Water storage barrels and drums in the 55-gallon (≈200 L) class store more water per footprint; they are usually sold with two bung caps, a bung wrench and a siphon or drum pump. Collapsible tanks and water bladders fold flat until an emergency is forecast — popular with apartment dwellers and as a bathtub-fill option. Larger vertical polyethylene tanks for homes and cabins can be quoted per project. For portable 5–25 L jugs, bricks and cans see water storage containers.

Tanks, containers or a plan?

  • Water storage tanks (this page): barrels and drums (55-gallon class), collapsible tanks and larger tanks, plus rainwater tanks — high capacity, stays put.
  • Water storage containers: portable, stackable jugs, bricks and cans in the 5–25 L class — carry, stack and rotate.
  • Emergency water storage guide: how households plan quantity, rotation and treatment — and what that means for your product range.

Materials and drinking-water documentation

Water barrels and tanks are typically blow-moulded or rotomoulded HDPE or LLDPE, in opaque blue or another dark color to limit light and algae growth. Drinking-water suitability depends on the resin, colorants and production controls. We do not assert food-grade, BPA-free, NSF/ANSI 61, FDA or any other drinking-water certification by default: the material specification is set by the customer, and resin declarations or test reports can be provided on request where available. Your labels should carry the storage, cleaning and rotation guidance your market and your compliance team require.

Rainwater tank options

A rainwater tank collects roof runoff for garden watering, cleaning and other non-drinking uses, and gives a household a reserve of utility water during outages or watering restrictions. We quote rain barrels (approx. 190–380 L / 50–100 gal), slimline wall tanks for narrow side yards and larger vertical rainwater tanks, with inlet screens, overflow outlets, brass or plastic taps and linking kits to join tanks.

Tanks are filled from the roof through a rain barrel diverter, which also returns the overflow to the downspout once the tank is full — so stored water does not end up pooling against the foundation. Rainwater is untreated; packaging should state that it is not for drinking unless treated and permitted by local rules.

Building a water storage program

Preparedness brands often sell barrel kits beside portable water containers and emergency kits, and link to an emergency water storage guide; hardware and garden retailers pair rain barrels with diverters and outdoor faucet covers for seasonal end-caps. Send capacities, colors, cap and spigot types, accessories and packaging and we propose a range; mixed containers with other wholesale categories are welcome.

Frequently asked questions

Are your water storage tanks food-grade or BPA-free?

We do not assert food-grade, BPA-free or NSF/ANSI 61 status by default. Resin and colorants are specified by the customer, and resin declarations or test reports can be provided on request where available.

Tank or portable container?

Tanks and barrels hold a bulk reserve that stays put; portable jugs and bricks are carried and rotated. Many programs pair a 55-gallon class barrel kit with our water storage containers; the mix depends on your channel.

Is a rainwater tank the same as an emergency water tank?

No. A rainwater tank stores untreated roof runoff for non-drinking uses; emergency drinking-water containers are filled from a potable supply. Many households keep both.

Do you supply pumps and accessories?

Yes — bung wrenches, siphon and drum pumps, spigots, linking kits and rain barrel diverters can be bundled.
